College Graduate Jobs – Secure One Before You Graduate

As your senior year of college begins, it’s time to start ramping up for finding those college graduate jobs. As anyone who’s been out in the workforce knows, finding a job can often take months.

The beginning of your senior year is the perfect time to get your resume put together and begin looking at career options.

Your college has a career services department that can be a great help during this time. They likely will be having classes or workshops in resume writing, interviewing, and job hunting.

All of these are skills that will not only be really helpful this year, but for years in the future. Make a trip to career services, or visit their portion of your school’s website to see what resources they have available to you.

Many degree programs also have mandatory or optional courses for their graduating seniors related to this process. Look at the courses you’ll be required to take over the next two semesters to see if this is something you’ll have.

The main service that students use from the career services department is the interviewing process. Career fairs are common on college campuses, and usually the careers department will set up interview dates that soon to be graduates may take advantage of.

This is a great way to find college graduate jobs, but you can’t count on it. The number of positions these companies offers is nowhere near enough to employ every graduating senior.

So, how can you find other positions? Talk to your career counselor about other career fairs that are held in your city, and in cities to which you’ll be interested in moving.

Not all career fairs are college-based. Many industries have fairs tailored to their specialties, some companies have regular career fairs at their offices, etc.

Registering on career websites is a great idea, but remember that a very small percentage of people are actually hired through them. Networking is your best option.

Send your resume to trusted, professional friends and acquaintances, and have them spread the word that you’re looking for college graduate jobs. Even with all the technology and resources we have available to us today, networking is still the #1 way people are hired.
